TITLE CREDITS – THE OTHER SIDE
TITLE CREDITS| 2D AND 3D ANIMATION
For the creation of the initial titles of The Other Side a 3D animation was created, with the idea of showing different pieces that appeared in the short film but to show them decontextualized and in an aesthetic way. In this way, the views of the camera were changed to use the 3D modeled objects and to insert the different credits so that they moved the same as the camera, on the other hand, subtle particles of dust and flares to give a mysterious and leisurely atmosphere.
For the creation of the final credits of the short film «The other side», at the Virtual Art studio we opted for a 2D technique with a «handmade» style with paper textures, digital pen layouts and flat scales in grey and red.
First, we use the clip of the original video shot with an iPhone 5 in black and white to pause the image and make masks on the characters to extract them from the backgrounds.
Secondly, the paused frames were processed digitally with different filters to emulate the engravings made in print in the Victorian period, something that gave us certain screenings of lines in the characters.
Thirdly, «footwear» was drawn by hand on a wacom tablet digitally drawing the frame with aspects of graphite in different intensities.
Fourth, we textured the backgrounds with old and worn-out papers, to which were added different video clips of textures of ink shedding in colours, black and white, and with red highlighting some dramatic accent of the theme of the short , and making its appearance by channel Alpha, using as matte also video clips of inks.
When the composition of all graphic elements, texts and digital retouching was done, camera movements were applied to make the whole sequence more dynamic.
From the outset, the intention was to emulate the credit titles of the film «Sherlock Holmes» which are also contextualized in the Victorian era and give a «handmade» and Vintage look.
